Revised talent strategies based on the skills gap
Talent skills have been a prominent topic over the past two years at HR Tech. In fact, Aptitude Research's Madeline Laurano cited candidate skills as a “copycat” trend in recruitment discussions.
Yet, it seems like a trend that's been consistent. Cornerstone Research cited that only 30% of CEOs feel confident in their employees' skills and confidence in skills development remains unchanged over three years.
With this in mind, the question then becomes how are TA teams looking to strengthen the existing skills in their organization through hiring.
Military recruitment and transferrable skills
One option for closing the skills gap is looking into transferable skills. This has been a frequent discussion concerning veteran recruiting efforts.
Anthony Garcia, Founder of PurePost, highlighted that 72% of people misrepresent their abilities. Not to mention, 44% of workers' core skills are expected to change over the next five years. These stats open up another conversation around a skills gap disconnect between what a candidate actually has the skills to do versus what they're hired for.
Company readiness for emerging technologies
With recent technological advances and 60% of companies wanting to invest in automation, the recruitment industry continues to track emerging technology adoption.
According to Cornerstone Research, 22% of companies are still unprepared for emerging technologies. This could be attributed to hesitations around AI. However, as TA headcount reduces at certain companies this year - it will be interesting to see if the technology becomes more embraced to help the remaining team members execute more effectively.
The importance of change management
There was one thing that our CEO, Steven Jiang, and Lead of TA and HR Operations @ JLL, Jane Curran, expressed during their respective sessions.
Change management is essential.
For Jane, her team was implementing a means for more effective internal mobility practices. For Steven, it was watching other companies adopt hireEZ over other clunky and expensive tools.
From dedicated training with L&D to incorporating mobility mindset into team culture, JLL was able to successfully manage change (and, in the process, help 115 employees find new roles in the first 60 days).
